Successful candidates should have a willingness to learn new skills, have excellent time management skills and the ability to commit to spending long periods in the field.
The highlight of your second year is a month long expedition to Queensland where you will experience rafting on the Tully River, scuba diving, sailing and sea kayaking in the stunning Whitsunday Islands The course is sequenced so you learn the basics first before moving on to harder challenges. Each skill and technique you acquire will lay the foundation for further competencies. Every group leading experience will improve your decision making and self confidence. The training provided in first year focuses on gaining hard activity skills and obtaining experience guiding and instructing groups. Second year student’s focus on management, guiding and instructing techniques, as well as their particular activity electives. Studies comprise a combination of theory classes, field trips and practical placement. Assessment may be written, demonstrative, by third parties or a combination of all these. Theory classes at our Frankston Campus are an important way to make sure you are fully equipped for the rigours of outdoor activities, They cover topics from risk management to client relationships and session planning.
