Austria - snowboarding, rafting, moutaineering
Mar 8th, 2006 at 8:20pm

Hey guys,

I am headed back over to Austria mid-year.  I am looking to get some rafting work, but also want to base myself in an outdoor sports mecca so to speak.  eg. the Austrian equivalent of Boulder, Colorado or South Island, NZ.

I have an Austrian passport so I plan on staying for a while.  I have done a couple of snowboarding seasons in Austria (Tyrol) and visited the relys (Styria) but would love to hear from anyone with any ideas.

Thanks

Mark

There's an English speaking company in Haiming called Feelfree - they do a lot of the Contiki tour stuff if you interested, on the Inn Valley and quite a few other companies further upstream in Pfunds. For more of a party atmosphere there is "Crazy Eddies" in Silz just down the road from Haiming. These are all pretty close to some awesome Ski fields as well near Oetz.

Hope this helps

Hey Buff,  I worked in the Prutz/Pfunds area in 86 for 6 months (and went back to ski for a fortnight) and it's a great little part of Austria to live and work.  The river Inn is more exciting up here than where is flattens out in the Haimling area.

And either side of this valley where the inn runs through, and all the nearby valleys are great WW and ski spots, with the Italian border an easy drive to have an itiallin dinner then back home afterwards, and so is Samnan and Switzerland.

There is even a glacier near Prutz for all year skiiing or some kayak sleding if you care.

Have a look at the liguidbliss web site, and you'll see the sort of rivers that are close by and then pop them an email.

That would be my pic of areas in Austria if I was headed there again.

Grab a map and your see what I mean.

Cheers.
