Concrete Classic Oct 06
Aug 12th, 2006 at 6:43pm

Hi all,

Elise, Jim, Liam and I are organising the next Concrete Classic  Grin.
The proposed date is October 28th - 29th.
Penrith have OK'd the date and venue but there are still some formalities to go through.

The plan is to have:
a ball race
the gift race (deckless)
boat-a-cross
boat-a-relay
fun freestyle comp
int-adv freestyle comp

The event is open to everybody from beginners to pro's with the emphasis on fun and some friendly competition.
There will probably be a BBQ lunch both days and plenty of prizes.

More info will be available in the near future.

Cheers
Ben

Hey Ben,
Thanks for organising a concrete classic. From what I heard it's a bit of fun and I'd definitely be up for it!
Cheers, Wink

Cool Ben,

Unfortunately I'm in Uganda at that time but the other concrete classics have been a heap of fun for everyone. The last one in Feb we had a crew of mixed ability from people who were swimming a fair bit to people who were serious about freestyle and everyone had an awesome time and got involved.
I hope some of the Vic crowd make the trek up as it's a really fun weekend  Cheesy
I'm just bummed to be missing the Gift - my tip for that race is stay right of centre on bottom drop  Wink

I'll do my best to russle up a few mexicans for the event. This is all assuming the water level in the lake comes up again. I hear the low water level in the lake is making a bit of a mess of the course at the moment. Any news on this front. I'd really like to hear when it comes up enough to bring the course back to normal.

They have been pumping water in to the lake and Penrith has had some rain.  The water level is up and the course is the best it's been for about 8-10 months.  Main has been made a hole again, jacks is nice and deep and the frier is super quick.  Ming Lee has left bottom drop and it's starting to for a more user friendly holw.  Not many rafts right now either.  It's sweet!  Grin

How fixed are those dates?  (Should I book my tickets down now, or wait?  VB has $99 each way from Brissie).  Als, I'll still be paying penance for my 10 weeks of annual leave  this year, so would only be able to fly down Sat night - is it worth coming for just the Sun, and what are the chances of H20 on the Mon?

But yeah I think the Concrete Classic will be good fun even if you are just there for the Sunday. Definitely try and rope in some other QLDers

Are you doing NZ this summer?

AAGGGH - no!  Did NZ Jan/Feb.  Scott would kill me if I had any more time off!  Have no leave left!  Was thinking South Africa and Kenya 2007, China 2008, Nepal 2009... Any ideas for 2010?  Grin

Gotta fit Norway in there somewhere!
After this I'm out for the next two years due to being a poor student again as of next year. But Norge, Sverige and Suomi are on my list - might need to train on NZ's west coast first though.

We are thinking of trying to incorporate a funyak race for non-paddlers.  What do people think?  Worthwhile?

It's a cool idea but it depends on how many non-paddlers are likely to be around, from memory of previous events there weren't too many.

The dates are firm with PWS and us.
We are going to have a "come and try day" on the same days.
It's been great in the past so hopefully we can keep on making it better and getting more people to come along.
We will have an itinerary as soon as it's approved from PWS, so if you want one you can contact me at helix@pnc.com.au or contact Ben & Elise through Wavemonkey
Have a great time in Uganda Sarah
