At Swinburne University our commitment is to provide
the finest quality outdoor education, recreation, leadership and technical
skill training. Our courses are professionally delivered, have a flexible
approach and provide employment pathways into outdoor education, adventure
guiding and tourism, adventure activity instruction, corporate outdoor
training and outdoor adventure therapies. Graduates from Swinburne University
are highly employable and work throughout Australia and overseas.
The Outdoor Recreation courses at Swinburne are delivered
by industry and in partnership with the Outdoor Education Group, based
in Eildon, North East Victoria and Halls Outdoor Education, based in Gembrook.
The
courses offered include:
- SRO30306 Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation (multiple
activities) - Traineeship
- SRO40206 Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation
- SRO40206 Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation –
Traineeship
- SRO50206 Diploma of Outdoor Recreation
Training is delivered in two to fourteen day blocks
at venues throughout Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. Methods of
delivery include structured outdoor training, classroom delivery, vocational
placements (work experience), skills enhancement project, group projects
and self-paced assignments.
Each of the courses focus on:
- risk management
- occupational health and safety
- outdoor leadership
- group and individual facilitation of the outdoor
experience
- outdoor activity technical skills and knowledge.
A diverse number of outdoor recreation specialisations
are on offer in the various courses and students are able to undertake
training and assessment in the following activity specialisations (dependent
on the chosen course):
- Expedition bushwalking
- Adventure based learning
- Challenge ropes courses (high and low)
- Canoeing
- White water kayaking
- White water rafting
- Mountain biking
- Cross-country skiing
- Rock climbing
- Abseiling
- Small boat sailing
Swinburne
TAFE has been recognised as the best in Victoria’s training system,
winning the Large Provider of the Year at the recent 2009 Victorian Training
Awards. Swinburne was a finalist in five categories and also received
awards for the Training Initiative of the Year and Victorian Trainee of
the Year
