Cairns is the second biggest tourism destination in Australia, being arguably
a national hub for adventure tourism. The Tropical North Queensland TAFE
is a leader in tourism education and training. It is world-renowned for
providing internationally-recognised qualifications, flexible training
and a wide variety ofnationally-accredited courses. Cairns itself is also
the gateway to our adventure playground, with less than an hour's drive
to the Wet Tropics Rainforests, the Great Barrier Reef and the Savannah
Gulf Country. The increasingly popular outdoor recreation courses at the

Tropical North Queensland has an extensive store of
specialist outdoor equipment including canoes, whitewater kayaks, sea-kayaks,
climbing and abseiling equipment, camping gear, and communications equipment.
Outdoor recreation students have access to this specialist equipment during
non-class time for personal skill development.
In these days of increasingly de-personalised, online
external and flexible study, Tropical North Queensland TAFE retains a
holistic approach to outdoor recreation training. The Outdoor recreation
teaching staff at Tropical North Queensland TAFE provides face to face
delivering of almost the entire course. They are always on hand to help
develop skills, mould decision-making processes and model professional
attitudes and techniques. This contributes to a high level of continuity
within the course. This is our strength as a training organisation and
we consistently achieve a high level of student satisfaction and retention.
We are seen as one of the top providers of outdoor recreation training
in Australia.
Tropical North Queensland TAFE has been continuously
delivering Outdoor Recreation courses for nearly ten years. A Certificate
II course ran from 1997-2004 and the Certificate IV course has been running
since 2000. Over 200 students have graduated with Certificate II or Certificate
IV level qualifications in Outdoor Recreation.
