Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation
Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation is the minimum qualification required to work unsupervised in remote outdoor settings. The Certificate IV course also prepares students to work in an instructor capacity where you can then facilitate the transfer of knowledge to clients so that they can then participate in an activity independently.
Industry based research across Australia demonstrates that a Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation is the preferred qualification for employment as a leader or guide in the outdoor recreation/education profession.
Please Note - this is not an entry level course. Candidates must have already completed a Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation or be able to demonstrate equivalent industry experience to be eligible to undertake the course. Students with no prior outdoor recreation qualifications or industry experience should refer to the Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation.
This is a flexible delivery course designed to accommodate students that are already working in industry who would like to gain further skills and knowledge required in order to work as a lead guide in uncontrolled environments and to also work in instructional roles. The course is delivered through a combination of block delivery practical training, classroom workshops and also online learning. Students will be required to undertake approximately 10 days in the classroom and 41 days in the field trips over a 10 month period, plus allocate sufficient time to undertake the online learning components of the course (we suggest 6 - 10 hrs per week be set aside for online learning). Training occurs in a variety of locations including Lithgow, Blue Mountains, Myall Lakes, and Southern Highlands.
During the course you will develop judgement, technical skills and safety skills, as well as the interpersonal skills required to teach and lead others unsupervised in the outdoors.
This is a challenging program providing you with opportunities to learn new skills, meet like-minded, committed people, and obtain invaluable skills and experience in preparation for a career in the outdoor recreation industry.
The Certificate IV focuses on developing leadership, facilitation, management and risk management skills relevant to the outdoor industry. The theoretical component of the course covers important topics such as program planning and administration, program logistics, risk management, relevant business skills for the outdoor profession, client relationship management and project management.
The Certificate IV Course will be delivered as an Advanced Standing.
