Who we’re looking for

Our EACH WILD Adventure Therapy team is looking for a part-time (4 days) Wilderness Adventure Therapy Worker to facilitate programs that respond to those experiencing social isolation, family conflict and mental health. You will have a passion for the outdoors with interest/experience in working therapeutically. This role will be for a fixed term until mid December 2022

We are looking for someone who is passionate about learning and/or is already experienced in bush adventure therapy programs, who has a love of nature and a compassionate approach. You will be working with people experiencing vulnerabilities and complex difficulties, NDIS clients, Youth Outreach and School groups.

To apply you must be qualified in Outdoor Education/Recreation/Adventure Therapy and/or Adventure Activities. A minimum Cert 4 of Outdoor Recreation is required to apply.

Experience and Qualifications in Bushwalking, White Water, Flat Water, Abseiling/Rock Climbing are highly sought after.

Driving Licence / Swift Water Rescue / First Aid qualifications are required to apply.

What you’ll be doing  

The role is highly collaborative and varied from day to day, providing effective and responsive services to young people, families and adults experiencing homelessness or sustained mental health challenges. You will bring your well-developed technical skills and qualifications in outdoor adventure activities; you will be involved in the design and implementation of outdoor experiences as part of a comprehensive cross-agency system of support.  Programs run across the Term with the ability to build rapport and provide support to a group once a week for up to 13 weeks. You will also have the opportunity to facilitate journey programs of up to 5 days in length.

All programs are run with a challenge by choice ethos, compassion for others and safety as priority. Your facilitation will help create a safe space for participants to discover what they can achieve and encourage their personal development by connecting them to their surrounding environment through overcoming challenges faced in adventure activities.

Most activity days are based in the eastern suburbs with locations frequently used being – Yarra River (Rafting), Whipstick Gully (Abseiling), Britannia Creek Caves (Creek Walk/Caving), Upper Yarra (Warburton) (River Sledding), Cathedral Ranges (abseil and bushwalking), Ricketts Point (SUPS/Snorkel) as well as various other amazing locations. Experience facilitating activities in these locations is a bonus.

Who you’ll be working with

You’ll be joining a professional and highly experienced team consisting of a WILD Team Leader and Wilderness Adventure Therapy workers who are passionate about the bush therapy approach to mental health.  All programs are facilitated with a minimum of 2 staff which means you will always be supported on each activity day by another experienced member of the team
