Since 1993 Southbound Adventures has delivered exceptional Outdoor Education experiences to school students from kindergarten through to Year 12, with our core focus being Years 7 to 10. We specialise in Bronze, Silver, and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journeys, particularly Gold expeditions on the Overland Track in Tasmania!
Based by the beach in the Illawarra, we operate across a diverse range of areas, including over 25 National Parks and 34 venues. This diversity is one of the many reasons our clients love working with us, and our team enjoys the variety of working in different locations on a weekly basis.

We’re looking for an energetic and strategic Business Development Manager to join our team, driving new growth opportunities and strengthening our presence in the education and outdoor sectors.
Position Description:
As the Business Development Manager – Sales & Marketing, you will lead the charge in expanding Southbound Adventures' reach and impact. Your focus will be on developing new partnerships with schools, enhancing relationships with current clients, and leading targeted marketing campaigns that promote our values and services. You’ll play a key role in shaping how we tell our story and grow our brand in a competitive and rewarding industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales & Client Development
- Identify, pursue, and convert new school and group partnerships, focusing on long-term engagement.
- Maintain and grow existing relationships through excellent customer service and proactive communication.
- Lead the preparation of proposals, service agreements, and presentations for school leadership teams and education stakeholders.
- Attend conferences, expos, and industry events as a representative of Southbound Adventures.
- Marketing & Brand Strategy
- Plan and implement marketing campaigns across digital, print, and in-person channels.
- Manage distribution of promotional materials, such as videos, case studies, brochures, and client testimonials.
- Work with the Operations Team to communicate the value and outcomes of our programs.
- Planning & Reporting
- Develop and maintain a strategic sales and marketing plan aligned with company goals.
- Track lead generation, conversion rates, client satisfaction, and other KPIs using CRM tools.
- Conduct market research to stay ahead of trends in outdoor education and school engagement.
Business Development Manager requirements:
- Qualifications in Business, Marketing, Education, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in business development, client relationship management, or sales—preferably in the education, outdoor, or experiential learning sectors.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for educators and decision-makers.
- Proficiency in marketing tools and platforms (e.g., Canva, Mailchimp, CRM systems, social media).
- A strategic thinker who can also deliver practical results in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
- Alignment with the values of outdoor education, sustainability, and youth development.
Desirable:
- Experience working with NSW schools.
- Background in outdoor education, teaching, or tourism.

Additional Information:
- Where: Variable. Our office is based in Albion Park Rail, NSW, however the opportunity for hybrid work is available. School visits are also a requirement.
- Workload: Permanent Full Time – 38hrs per week. Work may take place outside of regular business hours.
- Base Remuneration: $55,000 – 80,000 per annum plus Superannuation dependent upon experience.
- Additional benefits: Phone and Vehicle Allowance.
- Incentives: Commissions (Uncapped) to be paid upon reaching sales targets.
