Casual Program Officer

We partner with government and private capital to deliver programs and services that include community recreation, adventure and stadium sports, camping, learn to swim, children's programs, early learning, youth services, retirement living, disability services and social enterprises.

About the Centre

Mt Evelyn Recreation Camp is located at Mt. Evelyn and is nestled at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.  The environment is a natural sanctuary for a wide range of flora and fauna and provides a picturesque retreat where a wide range of program options are available.  The campsite is approximately 38 km from Melbourne and 5 km from Lilydale. Mt Evelyn Camp accommodates 130 people in bunk style accommodation.

YMCA specialises in delivering recreational camping programs to primary and secondary school groups during the 40 weeks of school terms and camping experiences to a variety of diverse community, sporting/recreation and family groups during school holidays and on weekends.
YMCA camping programs are underpinned by our YMCA Camps Learning framework that focuses on building resilience, living as community and appreciating the natural world.

Key Elements of the Role

As part of the small program team, you will undertake duties required to ensure all camp programs are delivered effectively and safely. Your role will involve facilitating and leading a range of activities at camp.

As a Program Officer you will be multi skilled and capable of undertaking duties in other areas within the camp operations outside the program when required e.g. assist with duties in the areas of cleaning and maintenance at the changeover of groups.

Each group attending camp is unique and we strive to meet the desired outcomes of each group through attention to pre-camp planning, program design and facilitation of the camp experience.

Key Deliverables and Accountabilities
  • Accountable to the Program Coordinator for the effective and efficient implementation of all programs at camp.
  • You will be responsible for the safety of all participants throughout the delivery of YMCA programs.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in the delivery of outdoor education programs involving youth in a camp residential setting or on journey-based programs.
  • Understanding of environmental education and ability to apply techniques to the camp environment.
  • Demonstrated group leadership experience.
  • Organisation and planning skills
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Level 2 First Aid, Current Drivers License, WWCC

YMCA, including Boards of Directors, is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

  • A national criminal history check;
  • An international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas;
  • Holding or obtaining a Working with Children Clearance/ equivalent in accordance with state/ territory laws;
  • ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
  • Two reference checks.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.

Salary: $26.93 per hour + super
