Class: Flat water

Gauge: Seqwater

Character: Pretty lake set down among mountains

Suits: Touring kayaks, touring canoes

Lake Baroon is a remarkably pretty lake set down among mountains that are largely clad with temperate and semi-tropical rainforest.

Even though this is not a large lake it is worth taking the time to paddle along its shoreline so every inlet can be explored. This way you won’t miss out on any of the interesting scenery that includes several small creeks and waterfalls that drop onto the catchment after rain.

Stay well clear of the dam wall though as this area is restricted.

Facilities at the picnic area are good (including a playground for the kids) and a kiosk is often open on weekends.

Putting In: Follow North Maleny Road (which becomes Baroon Pocket Road) north from Maleny until you reach a picnic area and boat ramp beside the lake. Take note of the time that the gate is locked of an evening.

Taking Out: Follow North Maleny Road (which becomes Baroon Pocket Road) north from Maleny until you reach a picnic area and boat ramp beside the lake. Take note of the time that the gate is locked of an evening.
